Those lazy-hazy-crazy days of summer

Live in the sunshine, swim the sea, drink the wild air.
Ralph Waldo Emerson

Hello!

Happy Birthday, AMERICA!

It's July. It's dry. It's hot.

And most Arkansas water sources are low.

Has that stopped the fun? NO!

But it does impact the outdoor activity selection.

Here are the adventures I've been on in the past 2 weeks-

Adventure Ideas

Lake Life!

We made a Father's Day Trip to the beautiful Table Rock Lake.

Although water levels are low, lakes are still a good option for some outdoor fun.

Get out there for some tubing, fishing, kayaking, and swimming!

Kayaking Adventures!

The rivers in the area are low. But if you plan right, you can still float.

The Illinois River does decent throughout the summer. But there are areas where you may have to drag the kayak along for short spurts.

This float was from near the Kincheloe Access to the Chamber Springs Access.

Family River Day!

If kayaking isn't your thing, post up somewhere on the Illinois River and play in it for the day.

Most of the access points in the article above work well for swimming also.

Road Trip!

If the heat is just too much for you to get out and play in, take a road trip to just SEE the beauty!

We found this little gem a little over an hour from home. It sits just beside the road. We hit it up at sunset and spent just a little time out in the heat.

Grand Falls (Joplin, MO) is reported to be the largest natural dam in Missouri, and was flowing well!

Hiking Adventures!

Yes, it's hot.

But that doesn't mean hiking is off the table. If you plan right, you can still hike!

The hike to Lost Valley started off at 65, with a high of 90 degrees for the day.

See the pics from this hike on my FB page

Check out more info on Lost Valley...

Before you go, learn the in's and out's of hiking in the heat!

What's Next?

Next weekend I will celebrate a new teenager in the house. Stay tuned to see what INDOOR adventures we come up with to celebrate a 13th birthday.

More hikes! I will be exploring the best summer hikes in the area.

Road trip! I have a road trip in mind for the end of summer, but I'm trying to iron out the details (timing, camping, etc). It's going to be epic!

“ “How many lessons of faith and beauty we should lose, if there were no winter in our year!” — Thomas Wentworth Higginson Hello! Yes. It's COLD! But there is still outdoor adventure to be had. January's adventures were beautiful! Thank goodness for 4x4's which allow us to explore country backroads during the snow. An amazing adventure option is White Rock Moutain for some amazing views in Arkansas. This one requires quite the drive down some dirt roads, but the payoff is amazing! Be sure to...
